I think that it should be delared the officical language. There are around 50 countries around the world who has english as an official language. The United States is not one of them. Even in 1780 John Adams was pushing to make english the official language of the United States. Americans been here since Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. People who make an attempt to have english the official language of the U.S. have had no successs. Even though the United States is considered a "melting pot" I still think that it should have and official language and it should be english.
When I first saw this discussion question, I thought it was referring to making our countries major language English. Perhaps that is what the question is referring to. If that is the case, I can see where you are coming from in respect to our country having an established, official language. I must say though, as our country is becoming more and more multicultural, I think it is important for us as a business country to be well rounded in many languages, specifically spanish, and chinese, as a larger portion of the population speaks one of the two. I agree with this as much as I agree with the idea that those who live in the U.S or become citizens here, should also become familiar with languages other than their own. If your statement was getting at the fact that english should be considered the official language of the U.S, then I suppose you are right, because it is really the major language that is used. I will also throw in there though that learning other languages is important.
